Tortilla
Peter Hemenway December 2023
I remember arriving in Mexico’s Nuevo Laredo after walking over the bridge from Laredo, Texas, at seventeen.
The sun was going down, and I had just entered a country style that was unique to me, for sure.
The place seemed very crowded and a bit dirty. As I walked near a market area, I also recall seeing a large man on all four limbs walking quickly like a crab across the road.
I also have a distinct memory of Mexican Tortillas as they tasted delicious. They were served at most Mexican restaurants at the time and served fresh and warm with a cloth over them, similar in style to how Italian restaurants often serve bread in a basket.
