The Maori

The indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori came with canoes from Polynesia to New Zealand. It is thought before that their origins were Taiwanese.

On the Island of Lembata a sailor is repairing a sail in a fashion that was probably similar to what the Maoris used on their boats.

The Maori were fierce warriors and the British in New Zealand never were able to conquer them physically, though eventually defeated them culturally and spiritually.
