Singapore was once a British colony and became independent in 1965. three quarters of the people living there are Chinnes, Malays are the next largest ethnic group and the third group are Indians.
Besides the commercial office skyscrapers, about four fifths of the population lives in high rise flats.

Because of commercial orientation there is little natural resources such as vegetables, plants, tree, or wild animals left. It seems they made up for this in part by making a very nice zoo.
In the last sixty years remarkable financial growth has accured, and at the same time Singapore has never been much of an producer of commodities but more of just a hub for importing and exporting worldwide. The harbor is one of the biggest transport hub in the world in terms of shipping tonnage.
Free tax zones and “liberal” policies were made to attract global investments and this seemed to work. Also it refines imported petroleum which is then exported.

Life in Singapore is tough for migrant workers. They generally work six to seven days a week under the hot sun in risky and sometimes life threatening situations. On most Friday and Saturday nights in Singapore's Little India neighborhood male workers meet on their evenings off work.
Many of the Indians are Tamils, Malayels and Sikhs and in Little India this culture is seen in its design

Like many modern cities supplying food to the people is an issue. Singapore has little natural resources or area for farming.
