Pig Farming

Pork consumption in Thailand is generally the highest among the different types of meat available.Thais usually consume around 18 million pigs a year.

Last year in June, the number of pigs available in the market already went down from 20 million to 15 million.

In 2020 Thailand exported about 2.7 million pigs to Laos , Cambodia and Vietnam.

In 2020 but because  of African swine fever and covid problems consumption the pig meat consumption declined and it was estimated a 40% decrease for that year.

Prices increased 33%

Total amount of pigs on market went down from 20 to about 15 m as of last June.

Thailand banned  exports of live pigs for three months because  domestic supplies were so low ad bees of price increases

Over 90% of Thailand’s pig farms are smallholdings with less than 50 pigs, while the remaining are medium to large-scale farms with pigs higher than 5,000 head. There are about 107,000 pig raisers in the country and 10.8 million pigs. Because of economic conditions and recent out break of Swine fever farmers are raising less pigs then normal. A large increase off exports of pigs from Thailand occurred in 2020 as other countries were effected by swine fever.

Now meat prices in Thailand has skyrocketed. It is intresting to note that Thailand is worlds fourth largest poultry exporter.
