Wat Pho

Wat Pho in Thailand hosts the largest Buddha figurine in Thailand, the Reclining Buddha. It is 46 meters long and represents the Buddha passing into nirvana.

The soles of the feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl segments.

The figurine is covered with gold leaf.

The largest freestanding reclining Buddha in the world is in China, measuring 416 meters in length.

Nirvana, for the Buddha, was the ultimate goal of his teachings: the state of total liberation from suffering, greed, hatred, and illusion, leading to the end of the cycle of rebirth.

The reason we see the Buddha lying on his right side is to free the heart and make it easier for the soul to leave the body.
