Rhode Island Independant Man
On top of the Rhode Island State House Dome stands a statue of a man named “The Independent Man”. It is eleven feet tall and weighs 500 pounds.
The statue is made of bronze and covered with gold leaf. The man holds a spear and an anchor, and wears only a bear skin loin cloth. We do not know if the statue was made to represent Roger Williams (nobody at the time of casting the statue new what Roger Williams wore).
Perhaps we can better guess why the Independent Man wears a bear skin from this angle… just look up!
